Commodity Chemicals
What are commodity chemicals?
Commodity chemicals, also called bulk chemicals, are produced in high quantities by a large number of chemical manufacturers. They are entirely standardized and with exact compositional matches. Commodity chemicals are divided into organic chemicals, which are also referred to as petrochemicals, and inorganic chemicals, some of which are used primarily to produce agricultural products while others are used as additives to organic chemicals.
What are their applications?
Commodity chemicals can be organic and inorganic chemicals. Organic chemicals are also referred to as petrochemicals such as methanol, olefins and aromatic chemicals. On the other hand, a number of inorganic chemicals are used primarily to produce agricultural inputs and others are used as additives to organic chemicals, either to facilitate chemical reactions, or as additions to the product.
